Server management

Three servers keep a fifteen-person structural engineering practice in Ankara running. The first stores structural calculations, bills of quantities and project drawings. The second is a modest SQL Server holding the Netsis accounting database. The third is a Linux VPS rented at Hetzner, serving the firm's website and a small portal from which clients download progress payment paperwork. What unites them is that none has an owner. Whoever set them up moved on years ago, patching is occasional and manual, and nobody could swear when each machine was last backed up. The cost arrives on the morning the SQL database reaches its growth limit and refuses new entries, or when the website certificate lapses. Under our server management, every machine gains an owner, a runbook and a maintenance schedule. Whether it lives in an office cabinet, a European data centre or an EU region of Azure or AWS, we carry out the work over remote access alone.

What the work covers in practice

This service picks up the routine that busy weeks always postpone. The boundaries are written down on day one, so nobody argues later about who owns what.

Agree the scope with the engineer who will do the work

Clear lines of responsibility

We own the operating system, database engine, storage, backups and access. Version upgrades for Logo, Mikro or Netsis and bookkeeping queries stay with your software reseller. That division is documented and sent to both sides.

Staged patching

Fresh patches go onto a lower-risk machine first and reach critical servers a few days later. Each change is preceded by a snapshot or new backup, so a rollback is always available.

Caring for SQL Server

Database backups, index upkeep, swelling log files, and a watch on how near an Express edition database is to its size cap. You hear months ahead when the accounting database is nearing that point.

Linux hosts

SSH by key only, unattended security updates where that is safe, and manual, tested upgrades for PHP, database and web server versions that might break the application.

Renewal dates

SSL certificates, domain renewals, hardware warranties and maintenance contracts, kept in a single calendar that nudges both you and us early.

Alerts worth reading

Disk space, service health, event logs and response times. Thresholds are set around your business, so each alert genuinely needs attention.

Locked-down admin access

A multi-factor VPN in place of a remote desktop port facing the internet, individual accounts for every administrator, and connection logs showing who logged in and when.

How we approach the job, from first call to handover

Once we have taken over, the work continues either inside a plan or billed by time at €55 per hour plus VAT.

01

Handing over the keys

Old and shared passwords are retired. Each administrator gets a personal account, access runs over a VPN with a second factor, and all credentials go into a vault opened in your company's name.

02

Health sweep

Disk and hardware condition, outstanding patches, out-of-support versions, and whether backups truly work. Findings are presented to you in order of urgency.

03

Documentation

One page per server: its purpose, what runs on it, what it depends on, and when support ends. Renewal dates are entered into the shared calendar.

04

Routine

Fixed out-of-hours maintenance windows, a monthly report, and a thirty-minute video review with management every quarter.

Your accounting database may be approaching a hard limit. In a great many small Turkish businesses, accounting and ERP software sits on the free SQL Server Express edition, which restricts every database to 10 GB. When a database that has grown for years touches that limit, the application stops saving new records, usually discovered halfway through month-end closing. We monitor the remaining headroom and put the options in front of you well before then: archiving, a clean-up coordinated with your reseller, or an upgrade to a licensed SQL Server edition.

Frequently asked questions

The model we see most is this: users, PCs and printers stay in-house, while servers, backups and patching come to us. The boundary is recorded in the scope document and both sides work from the same runbook. If you would rather hand over everything, including desktops and daily requests, that is our end-to-end IT support.

No. Anything needing a restart happens in out-of-hours maintenance windows agreed with you, typically a weekday evening. Critical servers are left alone during month-end and tax filing periods.

Standard support for Windows Server 2012 and 2012 R2 has ended, so they no longer receive regular security patches. We map the server's roles and plan a move to a current version or a virtual machine, working around your financial calendar. Until then we isolate the machine from the internet and other systems as far as practical.

There are no site visits. We identify the failed disk or power supply remotely, specify the exact part and open the warranty case with the manufacturer. The swap is carried out by the manufacturer's engineer, data centre staff, or one of your employees following our instructions step by step, while we stay on video and then verify the system is healthy.

No. We manage machines in your office cabinet, servers at Hetzner, OVHcloud or IONOS, and virtual machines in EU regions of Azure or AWS alike, working inside your own account and moving nothing without cause. Response times follow your plan: 4 hours on Start, 1 hour on Business, 15 minutes on Premium.
