IT infrastructure

In Turkey, hardware prices track the exchange rate, so a server bought at the wrong moment can tie up a budget for twelve months. Even so, the standard reply to "everything is slow" is a quote for new equipment. Apply flips that sequence. We start by cataloguing your servers, PCs, licences and warranties, then record what actually happens on your busiest days, and only after that recommend where money should go. Sometimes the answer is one database parameter, sometimes moving a backup job to a different hour, sometimes virtual desktops for a seasonal crew. Everything is carried out remotely. Because we have no hardware to sell, our advice carries no sales target.

Inside a health check

Remote access on our side, a couple of short meetings on yours. For the first few weeks no setting on your systems is altered; changes begin only after we have gone through the report together and you have agreed.

01

Catalogue

Servers, PCs, switches and access points, licences, warranty end dates. Many firms see this list complete for the first time, and two or three forgotten devices nearly always turn up.

02

Record the busy weeks

A small agent logs data for a fortnight or three weeks. We time it to include month-end close, VAT return week or, for an online retailer, the heaviest order days.

03

Traffic-light report

Red: deal with it this month. Amber: plan it into this year's spending. Green: keep an eye on it. Every line shows estimated engineer hours and, where relevant, hardware cost.

04

Who puts it into practice

Have us implement it, pass it to your current IT firm or work through it with your in-house staff. The report belongs to you, with no obligation to keep us on.

Computer on the desk versus desktop in the data centre

Hosted desktops earn their place by solving particular problems, not by being fashionable. Here is how each model copes with the same five situations.

Model A

Computer on the desk

Applications and documents are installed on each employee's own device. Familiar, simple and not dependent on the internet connection.

Initial outlay
Machines already owned, no new monthly bill
Laptop stolen at the bus terminal
Customer data on the drive triggers a KVKK breach assessment and a 72-hour notification clock
Ten seasonal staff arriving in April
Ten devices bought, set up, then collected in October
Fibre cut in the street
Work continues on local files
Revit, AutoCAD, 3D rendering
The GPU under the desk is used directly

Model B

Desktop in the data centre

The Windows session opens on a remote host. Whether the user holds a laptop, a thin client or a tablet, it merely acts as a window onto that session.

Initial outlay
A cloud and licence charge per user every month
Laptop stolen at the bus terminal
No company data on board, account locked within minutes
Ten seasonal staff arriving in April
Ten accounts created that day, removed when the season ends
Fibre cut in the street
Without a second line or mobile data, work halts
Revit, AutoCAD, 3D rendering
Needs GPU-backed VMs, and the bill climbs fast

Verdict

Most firms end up with both

The choice is made per role, not per company. Both models can run happily under one roof.

Model A
Design, engineering, graphics-heavy work
Model B
Reception, call handling, seasonal crews, branches
A and B together
Finance and HR on B, the project team on A

Behind a diagnosis of "the server is not enough" there is usually something else. A few examples: a backup job meant to start at 23:00 that somebody moved to 10:00 years ago; staff opening every Excel file from a network folder instead of locally; a Windows power plan throttling the server into "saving" mode; SQL Server grabbing all the memory in the box; a branch VPN routing traffic through head office for no reason. Each takes a few hours to correct from a distance, and not one of them is fixed by new hardware.

Frequently asked questions

In most cases yes, particularly when the quote is priced in foreign currency. A few weeks of data show whether the current box has truly hit its limit. If it has, your supplier receives a written technical specification for processor, memory and storage, so you avoid buying more than you need. If not, the issue is often resolved with a few hours of adjustment and the purchase slips back by a year or two.

Inventory and measurement normally run for two to three weeks, and all you need to give us in that time is a short kick-off and a wrap-up meeting. Pricing is based on engineer time at €55 an hour plus VAT. Before we begin, you get an hours estimate derived from your headcount, servers and sites. A fixed price is possible once the scope is clear, and if the estimate looks like being exceeded we ask you first.

Desktops can be built in a data centre in Turkey or in the EU, and we choose together based on what data you handle. Keeping personal data on an EU server may count as a cross-border transfer under KVKK, which calls for legal steps that have to be assessed on your side; please settle that with your legal adviser. On the technical side, encryption, access logs and the data processor agreement are our responsibility.

No, a small, well-defined pilot is healthier. Think of the front-office team a Cappadocia hotel hires for the season, foreign trade specialists at a Gaziantep exporter who spend half the week at home, or a new branch with no IT person of its own. After a few months you look at the numbers and decide whether to roll it out further.

KOSGEB schemes and digital transformation calls from regional development agencies occasionally include this kind of spending, although conditions and windows change frequently. Eligibility should be confirmed with the relevant body itself; we cannot guarantee any grant and we are not an accredited adviser. We can, however, supply a quote, a statement of work and a findings report in a clean format suitable for an application file.

Just enough to look. Throughout the inventory and measurement stage our accounts are read-only: they cannot change a setting or delete a file. Connections use personal logins with a second verification step over an encrypted remote tool, and each session is recorded. The KVKK data processor agreement is signed ahead of the first login, and write permissions are granted only alongside the implementation steps you approve.
