S3-compatible object storage

An architecture and engineering office of fifteen people in Kayseri keeps accumulating files that almost no one opens but no one may discard: permit sets, BIM models from delivered projects, quantity take-offs, progress payment attachments and thousands of site photographs. Its NAS has barely any free space left, and the only backup is a USB disk sitting right next to it. Object storage answers both issues. Think of it less as a network folder and more as a bottomless bucket that software writes into: backup programs, web shops with huge image libraries, document management tools or applications you have had developed. Capacity is practically unlimited and the invoice reflects only what you occupy. The feature that matters most is object lock. Once an object is locked, it stays exactly as it is until the date you chose, whoever tries to change it, whether that is your own administrator or an intruder with stolen credentials. When ransomware strikes, that guarantee is often what makes recovery possible at all.

What the work covers in practice

Opening a bucket is trivial. What decides its worth in a crisis is the retention setting, how narrowly access keys are scoped and proof that each night's job really completed.

Like-for-like pricing

Hetzner, OVHcloud, IONOS and European regions of the large cloud platforms, compared on cost per TB, egress charges, geography and immutability features. We also show what bringing everything back would cost, not merely the monthly fee.

One purpose per bucket

Backup sets, archived records and application uploads are kept strictly apart. Each bucket has separate encryption, separate permissions and a short label saying why it exists.

Lock that even we cannot lift

You pick the protection window, say thirty days. Until it expires, no one can remove or replace those objects: not our engineers, not your IT lead and not an intruder with full admin rights.

Connecting the tools you have

Veeam, Acronis, restic, Synology Hyper Backup, Microsoft 365 backup products or a store's image directory are pointed at the new target. We confirm that each run ends successfully rather than simply kicking off.

Keys with the smallest possible rights

Every system has its own credentials, and backup software can add data but never remove it. Keys are replaced on a fixed cycle and live in your password manager.

Housekeeping on autopilot

Rules move ageing data to cheaper tiers and purge whatever has passed its retention date. Nobody needs a calendar reminder to tidy up old backup sets.

How we approach the job, from first call to handover

Setting it up is fast. Pushing several terabytes the first time can take days on an ordinary office line, so we let it run in the evenings and at weekends.

01

Data map

We list the data sets, their size, backup frequency, how long each must be kept and the maximum acceptable wait to get it back after an incident.

02

Configuration

Account opened for your company, buckets, encryption, retention windows, keys and tiering rules, summarised on a single page.

03

First upload

Backup software or application connected, first run supervised, next daily runs verified.

04

Restore test

We recover sample files and, when relevant, an entire virtual machine. Only after that succeeds do we sign off the work.

A backup and an archive are different things. Backups exist to get you back to yesterday after something breaks, and it is fine for them to expire after a few months. Archives preserve finished records untouched for years, for example documents covered by statutory retention periods under the Tax Procedure Law. Treat them as one and you end up either paying to store old backups indefinitely or losing a record you were legally obliged to keep because a cleanup rule removed it. So each gets its own bucket with its own retention, and your accountant should confirm how long each record type must be kept.

Frequently asked questions

That depends on size and connection speed. A few files return in minutes; restoring a server holding several hundred gigabytes can take hours. We time this in the restore test so the number is known well before you need it.

Most encrypt at rest by default, which we verify during selection. For special category data such as patient records at a dental clinic, we add client-side encryption before upload, leaving the provider with nothing readable. You hold the key, plus an offline copy, since losing it means losing the data.

Egress is the classic surprise. Certain providers bill every gigabyte you download, which becomes expensive during a big restore, while others barely charge for it. That is why our comparison includes the price of a full recovery next to the monthly figure.

Record the storage, its provider, region and retention period in your personal data inventory. Using an EU provider is a transfer abroad, and its legal basis is something to settle with your adviser. Erased personal data persists in backups until they expire, which is acceptable if your retention and destruction policy says so and sets a limit.

Capacity and any egress are invoiced by the provider to you. Our set-up work costs €55 per hour plus VAT, and checking backup runs plus periodic restore tests can be included in Start, Business or Premium.
